“the Busby Babes”

Ieri 6 Februarie s-au împlinit 58 de ani de la tragedia zborului 609  numit şi “Dezastrul de la Munchen”  în care şi-au pierdut viaţa 23 de persoane dintre care 8 fotbalişti ai echipei Manchester United + membrii din staff-ul tehnic şi jurnalişti.

O placă şi un ceas  în amintirea celor care au murit au fost ridicate la Old Trafford şi dezvăluite pe 25 februarie 1960.Cei cărora vieţile le-au fost scurtate în mod tragic nu vor fi uitaţi niciodată.

În memoria acestui eveniment tragic englezii au compus şi un cântec pe care îl cântă în fiecare an la ceremonia care are loc la stadionul Old Trafford in memoria celor care şi-au pierdut viaţa “The flowers of Manchester”

Primele versuri descriu evenimentele cu puţine minute înaintea accidentului:

The Busby Babes were flying home, returning from Belgrade,

This great United family all masters of their trade.
The pilot of the aircraft, the skipper Captain Thain,
Three times tried to take off and twice turned back again.

The third time down the runway disaster followed close,
There was slush upon that runway and the aircraft never rose.
It ploughed into the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned.
And eight of that team were killed when the blazing wreckage burned.
